Farmer Support Group Visited the Scottsville Pre-Primary School

A team from Farmer Support Group visited the Scottsville Pre-Primary School to assist them with planting a vegetable, herb and flower garden on their grounds.

Farmer Support Group put together a creative plan featuring 6 raised beds spelling out the word “GARDEN”, each of which will be cared for by one of the 6 groups/classes in the school. The idea is to get children involved in the process of growing food and teaching them about agriculture from a young age so that they understand where their food comes from.  Crop Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal was also extremely helpful in assisting with the provision of implements and compost for the project; some of their students also gave input into the planning of the garden.

Farmer Support Group, offered to donate their time and resources to this project, gave a short presentation to the children on how to care for their plants.  The Pre-Primary School  were also given seed packs which they can plant with the children to continue the development of the garden.

It was great to see the interaction being shared amongst the PMB community and the garden has certainly caused a ‘buzz’’ at Scottsville.
